Anyone on here who has experienced drug addiction recovery?
|
Just got out of detox, sober for 10 days now. I´m gonna try out the AA 12 steps way.
Planning to attend 1 meeting a day for the first month at least.
Anyone who have overcomed addiction what was it that helped you the most?
Oh and of course let the abuse rain on me too ! ;)

If anyone is in or knows someone in a crisis or recovery feel free to Inbox me , always good to surround yourself with people on the same mission as you who has walked the same path. 10 years now clean, booze and smoke in moderation on events or socials. And a hobby. Sounds patronising. I never had one when left the Army, for years. I now strongly feel a hobby is key for recovery.

Yep 2009. City roads Islington Detox for 4 weeks on lock down followed by 6 months rehab. Cranstoun Organisation. City Roads only had 18 beds and was the only facility in the UK to get into by a self referral. 0*facilities. 5* staff and Doctors. Saved and Changed my life. Bruno is right there is always a facilitator. That was everyone I knew back then. Had to take those out of my life. Art and Nature shit I never saw when high or drunk those have kept me good. AA, NA, CA attended all, done the 12 steps and to be honest felt more like networking and a weekly social. Still left the meetings thinking of having a drink or bender due to spending nearly 2 hours talking about them. Came to the conclusion only me , my brain could say no. Was supposed or planned for a year in rehab is what they said I needed. I bailed out early.

I'd say that some who find that "something" in psychedelics have specific talents and a genetic predisposition to present connection that can be uniquely valuable and beneficial. They are not scientists, nor do they apply analytical methods, but their contribution as coaches and leaders may be absolutely electrifying. Every society has its shaman.

I like it when people are trying to find more solutions on this major problem.
I will watch this when I have time.
Even if he´s wrong or right he´s trying to help, which is positive.
Here are 2 links, 1 video from a psyciatrist and one Pic with text on it from Russel Brand.

Not for addiction but had the misfortune to spend a week in The Priory rehab centre seemed more interested in telling you the celebs and famous they had treated than the patients themselves.Horrible experience nearest I will get to doing porridge.

You might want to take anything Johann Hari writes with a very big pinch of salt.

I've gone without a coffee for three days.
I can recommend it. The next coffee tastes truly magical.

He went to AA and is a "buddy" or whatever they are. When they feel like a drink there is always someone there to talk to and help in the fight.
